This year, Brevard, NC ranked 9th. Each of the towns has a population of less than 25,000. But, it takes a lot more than a limited population to rank as the best small town in the south. It takes hospitality, culture, outside spaces, and charm. Call me biased, but I feel Brevard, NC is by far a gem of a town for visitors and locals alike. Nestled in a quiet valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains in western North Carolina, comprised of 381 square miles of land with a population of approximately 33,000, finding solitude is quite easy to do. Brevard, NC is sandwiched between incredible tracts of protected land. Specifically, Pisgah National Forest consists of 88,000 acres of beauty to explore. In addition, Dupont, Georges, and Headwaters State Parks are nearby. Additionally, this area is graced by the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway, a scenic drive known for its breathtaking views. Only 30 minutes from Asheville, one hour from Greenville, SC, two hours from Charlotte, NC, and three hours from Atlanta, GA make this an easy escape from city life!
Let’s take a moment to talk about the weather! This area boasts an average summer high temperature of a comfortable 82 °F. This area has been a refuge for folks trying to escape the heat of the flatlands for years. Additionally, our winters are mild, with less than a foot of snow on average.
